Shooting suspect turns self in

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office has arrested an Ash man Wednesday in connection to a shooting.

Sgt. April Stanley, spokeswoman for the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, said deputies responded to a home along Etheridge Road in reference to a shooting. Two victims suffering from gunshot wounds were found.

One victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper arm while the other suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach. Both were transported to Brunswick Community Hospital for treatment and were released without serious injury, according to Stanley.

Upon further investigation, James Ivan Lewis, Jr., 29, was identified as the suspect. According to Stanley, Lewis fled the scene prior to deputy arrival.

Wednesday, Lewis turned himself into authorities at the Brunswick County Detention Center. He has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and received a $50,000 bond.
