CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) - The athletic talent on the high school level in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee continues to improve each year.
One of the most promising young stars in the area is Carolina Forest sophomore Marisa Runyon.
She has already committed to play college softball at the University of Alabama, which is currently the number one ranked team in the country.
Marisa has been a star on the local softball scene for many years, so her success now hasn't caught anybody by surprise.
"Everybody saw it, even with her being as young as rec ball, people talked about Marisa. But definitely as a seventh grader, she was our starting catcher, actually in her seventh grade year," recalls Carolina Forest Head Softball Coach Sarah Minchew.
"It's always been my dream to play in the upper level of college and ever since I joined my travel ball team that I'm on now, we have been sending emails to coaches and that's when I knew that I could do it," says an excited Runyon.
