MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Chanticleer baseball team will be playing their second game in a huge big south series against Liberty on Saturday.
But like every game for CCU this season, it will pale in comparison to Tuesday's exhibition against the Texas Rangers. Which, because of the extreme talent, was chosen as the spotlight for Athlete of the Week.
A number of Chants made memories they'll never forget against the Rangers, and they now hope the positive momentum from hanging with a major league ball club will help drive them for the remainder of the season.
"I'm hoping that we can take some positive things from this and build on it. I've seen the focus in these guys about three or four times this year and when we have we've played great baseball," says CCU Head Coach Gary Gilmore. "I honestly think they're their own worst enemy; they're just not mature enough at times in different leadership roles and be locked in to play. When we are this can be a good team."
Game one of the Chants series against Liberty will begin April 1 at 6 p.m.
