MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The St. James baseball team has started the season off hot, winning their first seven games, and the school's first ever IP Classic last week.

On a team with seven players signed to play college baseball, sometimes it can be hard to stand out, but Robert Troiano was able to do just that last week.

"You have a lot of competition and you want to do better than them, because you know they're going to be D-1 schools and you want to be better than them," said Troiano.

Robert started every game behind the plate during the tournament until the championship game, where he pitched six and a third innings of shut-out baseball to lead the Sharks to the title.

"We had a lot of guys that stepped up, it seemed like every game somebody stepped up, but he was just so consistent with his bat and with his glove behind the plate throughout the tournament and then to play against Blythewood in the championship game and to have the performance he had was just amazing," said St. James head coach Robbie Centracchio.

Troiano was named the tournament MVP for his performance, a huge honor in a tournament filled with some of the best in the state.

"It's usually one of them getting it, but I just went out there and played good, played hard all week, and I guess I deserved it," said Troiano.

The St. James Sharks will be back in action Friday at Georgetown.
