MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - College baseball players that can excel at the plate and on the mound are few and far between, but that's just what Josh Conway has done for Coastal Carolina so far this season.
"Whatever the coaches need me to do is what I'm going to do, whether it's third base. I'm going to do the best I can that day, or pitching, I'm going to give it all I've got that day, or hitting, it's the same thing. I come out to play every day," said Conway.
On the mound last week, Conway was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week. He also leads the Chants with three wins, 25 strike outs and a 1.06 ERA this season.
"His stuff has always been outstanding and he has really come into his own these first couple of outings, he's just been great," said CCU pitching coach Drew Thomas.
While at the plate Conway is still finding his groove, only hitting .147, he doesn't blame that on being tired, saying his body still feels fresh despite the daily grind.
"The coaches do a great job of taking care of me and keeping me healthy all of the time, and if I need a break I just let them know," said Conway, "they take care of my arm and trust me with everything I do."
Conway had another impressive outing on Wednesday, picking up the win as Coastal beat Wake Forest 10-2.
