There is no "I" in team: Lady Seahawks

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Winning state championships at Myrtle Beach high school is certainly nothing new, the football team brought one back to the Grand Strand this year and on Saturday the Lady Seahawks will be playing for their second straight on the hardwood.

"It is something that we've probably had in the back of our minds since last year when the state championship game was over, because of who we had coming back and the success that we had," said Head Coach Brian Kiper.

Saturday's game will also be bittersweet for the ladies, with it being the last time many of them will play together.

"It's going to be real sad because I've been with these girls for a long time.  I've not only played with them on the varsity level, I played with them in AAU and rec league," said Khadijah Sessions. "I've known these girls all my life and I'm really going to miss them next year."

The team says they've been able to enjoy this year's trip to the state title a little more than the last, there's still plenty of nerves waiting for Saturday's tip to arrive.

"I just want to call Greenville and have them meet us in Columbia to get this thing taken care of and out of the way," said Kiper.

Saturday's game against Greenville tips off at 6:30 for the Lady Seahawks.
