MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - From spiraled staircases to Brazilian cherry wood floors and showers made of onyx, some of the homes in Myrtle Beach look as though they should be on magazine covers.
WMBF News Anchor Chandi Lowry uncovered some of the most lavish homes in the Grand Strand and will give a glimpse of the grandeur of some of the area's extravagant homes.
Lowry says she was amazed at how well the Grand Dunes home was decorated and how every inch of the home came together to fit its Mediterranean style structure.
Attention to detail is key. Like the intricate carvings on the chandelier as you enter the home's foyer.
"The details have a lot to do with the molding. The baseboards are very well made; the woodwork is beautiful and the doors to the refrigerator are like a piece of furniture," explains real estate agent Sabra McNeill.
As you walk through the house you can't help but notice the several chandeliers that hang from the home's tall Mediterranean style ceilings.
McNeill says the house is a unique find in South Carolina.
"I think they have probably never been in a home like this, not in Myrtle Beach or South Carolina. It's a style that's really done a lot in Florida," McNeill says.
"There's a huge ‘wow' because it's done so well, and there's so much detail you really won't see in any other home," claims McNeill.
She says it's so special because the owners Larry Delinger and Carrol McClintock came up with a whole new floor plan.
They are the first people in the Grand Dunes neighborhood to add stairs leading to a billiard room creating a second floor, a built in china cabinet and an extra hallway.
McNeill says, "They are very open, all the rooms are very open to one another so you can stand in one focal point and see all of the rooms and that's why the colors carry through very well and it's important to match your paint colors because you see so much of the home at the same time."
Another custom fit is the arched doorways leading to the canopy style bed in the master bedroom. Next to it is a bathroom covered with onyx, which is three times more expensive than marble, complete with a Jacuzzi style tub.
But McNeill says the most impressive view is outside of the home.
"I think my favorite part is the marble lions that are keeping watch over the swimming pool. I think it's a beautiful setting and when you walk outside you feel like you go into another world," she says.
The lions go perfectly with the homes cat theme. The lion heads inside are carved into the fireplace and the ones outside hover over a saltwater pool that changes colors.
After a dip in the pool, a snack is easy to find with the outdoor kitchen.
McNeill says the house has the best of both worlds.
"You can entertain easily. It's a very livable home although it's very elegant," McNeill conveys.
The owners tell WMBF News that in the summer time, they like to relax by the den and spend most of their time by the pool. It's a private area with a big backyard covered with palm trees.
