MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – An 18-year-old Bennettsville man has died after being struck by a car while he was walking along a roadway Thursday night.

Cpl. Paul Brothers, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said the man was struck around 7:15p.m. on Bounty Acres Road, about two miles south of Bennettsville as he was walking northbound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said the victim was Shawn Souders. Souder's parents told Brown their son was walking to a store when he was struck.

Brothers said Souders was wearing dark clothing and was illegally in the roadway at the time of the accident.
