MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Grand Strand is getting another national honor, but it's not for its beaches or boardwalk; this time it's golf. Industry insiders predict the spotlight could help bring the golf industry back to its pre-recession glory.

A survey conducted by the National Golf Foundation ranks the Myrtle Beach-area number one for quality and value in its golf courses.

The survey polled 5,000 golf travelers online and more than 70-percent said they would choose Myrtle Beach over any other golf destination.

It's an honor visitors say they're quick to notice at Barefoot Resort and Golf.

"Some beautiful vistas, some beautiful holes, so it's a unique golf course and it's just a lot of fun," said golfer Mark Therrien.

At Barefoot Resort and Golf the greens are starting to pick up from a few tough years according to golf pros. They hope the boost continues as news of the Grand Strand's ranking spreads.

"We're very excited about it, encouraged by what we've seen with bookings thus far for 2011 and we just hope that this trend continues," said Mike Ross, head golf pro at Barefoot.
