Search for armed bank robber called off in Horry Co. neighborhood

Horry County, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Officers with the Horry County Police Department are searching for a suspect involved in an armed robbery at the BB&T bank on Highway 544 Wednesday.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. at the bank near Coastal Carolina University.

Kegler said the suspect presented a gun and demanded money at the bank.

The suspect is described as a white male standing at 5'8". He was wearing a tan hooded sweatshirt with black pants and white shoes.

He was also wearing black sunglasses, a scarf and gloves. The suspect was carrying a white and blue Belk bag.

The suspect left on foot toward the woods in the direction of the Myrtle Grand subdivision with an undisclosed amount of cash. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Kegler said the search for the suspect in the subdivision has been called off, because officials do not believe he is still in that area.
