MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Sorry, Chevy fans, but a Ford powers Myrtle Beach High School's offense. Daiquone Ford, the Seahawks' explosive running back and safety, is a big part of why his team is playing for the Class 3A State Championship Saturday.
Ford may not get the headlines of fellow offensive stars like Everett Golson and Donte Sumpter, both committed to Division 1 schools, but that doesn't bother him one bit.
"This offense, there are so many players on the team who can make plays at any time, it's just like, [the recognition] is going to come slowly, but surely it's going to come," said Ford.
Ford says he's receiving more and more college interest lately, including hearing from The Citadel and Newberry.
The senior picked up Myrtle Beach's offense this season, especially with quarterback Everett Golson recovering from injuries. He made long touchdowns a habit: often scoring on 50+ yard runs, screen passes and even kickoff returns. Ford says the feeling when he's breaking off a long score is unbelievable.
"I feel fast," said Ford. "Sometimes I feel like I can't be caught. I come out every practice and stretch for at least 30 minutes, prepare myself for the whole week so I know that when I see I seam and I hit it and I break a long run, it feels good and I know I prepared that whole week to make that accomplishment."
Ford and Myrtle Beach face South Pointe in the Class 3A State Championship game Saturday at 6pm.
