GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) - A man imprisoned on drug trafficking charges has been booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center to await a murder trial.

Ervin Christopher Gamble, 31, of Georgetown was named as a suspect in the July 2009 slaying of a Garden City man more than one year after the fatal shooting on Offshore Drive.

Test results indicated that a bag of drugs found with 28-year-old Steward Reichard at the time of his death had Gamble's DNA.

Horry County Police issued a warrant for Gamble's arrest on that murder charge, but he was in the Lee Correctional Institution at the time.

According to Public Index records, Gamble was sentenced to serve 25 years for drug trafficking. His sentence began on July 29, 2009, but he was released from the state corrections facility on Nov. 7, 2013.

Sgt. Jeff Benton with the Horry County Sheriff's Office said Gamble's previous conviction was vacated, and he was granted a bond $50,000 Friday for both the murder and drug charges.

Gamble has already been released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on bond.
