LATTA, SC (WMBF) – A dog has killed a 25-year-old man Tuesday morning, whose body was then found by a family member, according to officials with the Dillon County Sheriff's Office.

Capt. Cliff Arnette, spokesman for the Dillon County Sheriff's Office, said the body of Justin Lane was found shortly after 11 a.m. in his home along Skillet Road in Latta.

Lane lived with his mother.

Arnette said the family has told investigators they have not had any problems with the one and a half-year-old pitbull.

The dog was not injured, as far as investigators could tell. According to Arnette, it is likely the dog will be put down.

The dog is currently in the custody of Dillon County deputies, and state police are now assisting the Dillon County Sheriff's office in the investigation.

Authorities have taken the body to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for an autopsy.
