BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - An undercover operation in Brunswick County has led to the arrest of a 68-year-old man, according to investigators.

David Otis Mercer, 68, of Ocean Isle Beach, was arrested on Oct. 20 and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Mercer's arrest was part of an undercover sting between the Brunswick County Drug Enforcement Unit and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to department spokeswoman Sgt. April Gause.

The 68-year-old is currently being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond.

Officials said Mercer was previously arrested on Dec. 15, 2008 and faced multiple charges, including injury to real property, trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of a firearm by a felon, and manufacture or selling of a slot machine.

Mercer pled guilty in May to possession of a firearm by a felon, in addition to a drug charge. The 68-year-old, according to officials, served 620 days in prison.
