FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A 16-year-old from Hemingway was pronounced dead late Wednesday night following a single-vehicle accident in Florence County.

Florence County Deputy Coroner Don Reynolds said the accident occurred along Persimmon Ford Road around 6:30 p.m.

Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of the 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck lost control of the vehicle as it was traveling west on Persimmon Ford Road. The vehicle ran off the left-side of the roadway and overturned before the driver was ejected.

The lone victim in the accident, identified as Aaron Hunter Joye, 16, of Hemingway, was pronounced dead at a Pee Dee hospital shortly after 9 p.m.

Investigators noted he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The circumstances leading to the fatal accident remain under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
