BJ GoodsonBy Justin Felder - bio | email
LAMAR, SC (WMBF) – Lamar High School has a tradition of sending players to big-time college programs. Next in that tradition is WMBF News Athlete of the Week, Silver Fox linebacker BJ Goodson.
"[I bring] a lot of hard hitting, a lot of passion and intensity," said Goodson.
Goodson committed to Clemson soon after attending the Tigers' game against Miami. He says head coach Dabo Swinney made a strong impression.
"[He has an] amazing personality, great sense of humor, a great guy to be around," said Goodson.
Goodson, who also plays receiver and tight end for Lamar, made a similar impact on Clemson defensive coordinator and Dillon native Kevin Steele.
"I remember Coach Steele saying the Pee Dee region builds great players and tough players," said Lamar head coach JR Boyd. "Clemson is looking for tough players. They feel like BJ fits that mold."
Goodson has one more major goal before he leaves high school: finish what his team started last year. Lamar made it to the Class 1A state championship game a year ago, losing to Chesterfield. This year, they want a return trip to Orangeburg, but to leave with a victory.
"I think this is it," said Goodson. "I think this is the year we will get the championship."
Goodson and Lamar host Hannah-Pamplico Friday night.
