LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) – Lake City High School running back Shon Carson is going to play college football at the University of South Carolina. Carson is also a star for Lake City's baseball team and says USC told him he can play both sports in college. He tells WMBF News he expects to play either shortstop or center field in baseball.
Carson had plenty of college options, but says South Carolina had the most to offer.
"They're close to home, they're improving in both sports," said Carson. "I'm trying to get on the field early and play."
Carson commits to the Gamecocks after USC's upset of then-top ranked Alabama on Saturday, 35-21. Carson wasn't at the game itself – he was taking the SATs. He also commits after South Carolina won their first ever national championship in baseball this past season.
"I want to try and help them win a national championship in both sports," said Carson.
Carson helped lead the Panthers to the 3rd round of the Class 3A playoffs last season. Scout.com rates him as a 4-star recruit, with other offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and LSU.
