MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Students looking for an alternative to a traditional high school education may not have to look any further than their computer.

Provost Academy South Carolina, a free online public high school, will be hosting an Open House for prospective students on Oct. 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event, according to organizers, will be held at the Chapin Memorial Library in Myrtle Beach.

Throughout the course of the Open House, students and parents will have the opportunity to meet with Provost Academy South Carolina Community Outreach Director Josh Brickley. Brickley will be on-hand to answer any questions about online schooling and its advantages.

"Parents and prospective students will also have the opportunity to experience the virtual classroom, visit the parent ambassador booth, win prizes and enroll for the fall semester," a spokesperson said.

Officials said Provost Academy South Carolina is a state-authorized public online school that is free of charge to South Carolina residents. The online school offers high school students the choice of engaging in an interactive education outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Students enrolling in the online school will complete classes in an effort to earn their regular high school diploma.

Provost Academy is currently enrolling students for the upcoming school year. Those looking for more information can visit sc.provostacademy.com or call (877) 265-3195.
