CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) – Mark Timmons might not be the biggest guy on the field, but he's one of the most talented on a breakout Carolina Forest squad.

"I guess I'm the little engine that could," said Timmons.

Timmons, a senior running back, is listed on the Panthers' roster at 5'8, 170 pounds.  He puts up big numbers, though.  He broke the school record for rushing yards in the first game of the season…then broke it again last Friday night.

"That's not enough," said Timmons.  "That's how I feel, it's not enough.  I want more."

Timmons also broke the school record for rushing touchdowns in a game, and he says another goal is to reach 2,000 yards on the season.  His running has led Carolina Forest to a surprising 4-1 start to the season.

"Probably pound for pound one of the toughest players I've ever coached," said Panthers head coach Drew Hummel.  "It's comforting to know if you give him the ball 20-25 times, some good things are going to happen during the course of that.  He's not big in stature, but he's tremendously big in heart."

Timmons describes himself as shy, though teammates disagree.  One area he's not shy about: his expectation for his team.

"We can be real good," said Timmons.  "A few games we didn't bring our ‘A' game and we still came out on top, I think we can definitely be a playoff team, maybe even go to [the state championship]. That's what I want."

Timmons and Carolina Forest visit North Myrtle Beach Friday night.
