Shriners prep for four-day festival in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach continues its 2010 festival season as it welcomes nearly 10,000 visitors to the Grand Strand for a four-day Shriners event.

The 35th annual South Atlantic Shrine Association Meeting will take place throughout Myrtle Beach from Sept. 15-19.

Aside from meetings, the organization has planned a Family Fun Day on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the former Myrtle Square Mall. Organizers have planned Shrine motorcycle and go-cart competitions, a hillbilly car show and classic car displays for the event.

Other events slated for the weekend include a SASA parade on Saturday, benefit concert for the Shriners Hospital for Children and an orthopedic screening clinic.

The Shriners of North America is a fraternal organization consisting of more than 400,000 members. Members support 22 children's hospitals, which have improved the lives of more than 800,000 people since 1922.
