Police investigate attempted kidnapping in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A 19-year-old claims a man attempted to kidnap her in the parking lot of Broadway at the Beach after offering a ride to the tourist hot-spot on Thursday afternoon.

Myrtle Beach Police were dispatched to Broadway at the Beach at 3:50 p.m. Thursday after learning of the attempted kidnapping. Upon arrival, police met with the victim who said a man had offered her a ride while she was walking in the area of 21st Avenue North.

The woman said she accepted the ride and asked the man to drive her to Hard Rock Café for a bite to eat. After their arrival to Broadway at the Beach, the woman said the man began driving in circles around the property.

Police said the man eventually pulled into the parking lot of Hard Rock Café, where he exited the car in an attempt to give the woman a hug. The woman said the suspect "put his hand over her mouth and tried to force her back in to the car."

The 19-year-old said she began screaming and gained the attention of a witness, who approached the two to see what was happening.

The suspect has been identified by police as a white male, standing 5'6" and weighing approximately 220 pounds with brown and gray hair. At the time of the incident, the victim said the man was wearing a red plaid shirt with light blue jeans. He was driving a gold 4-door Chevrolet.

Anyone with information on the incident or identity of the suspect is asked to call the Myrtle Beach Police department immediately.
