HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Officials with Horry County Fire Rescue said firefighters have contained a brush fire near Berkshire Forest and SC-31 Wednesday afternoon.
Leslie Yancey, spokeswoman for the agency, said the fire was reported at 3:45 p.m. in an area off of SC-31 near the Berkshire Forest subdivision.
One division of firefighters continue to battle the fire from SC-31, while a second division works the fire from an area on Beauclair Court in Berkshire Forest. Yancey reported 10 homes were threatened by the flames.
All northbound lanes along SC-31 previously closed from the fire have since been reopened to traffic. Yancey said a command post was also set up at a location on Beauclair Court.
Officials said firefighters will suppress the burnt areas of brush with a foam substance, which will keep the flames from rekindling. South Carolina Forestry Commission workers are also constructing fire breaks in the area as an extra precaution.
Scott Hawkins, spokesman for the Forestry Commission, said the fire was almost entirely under control by Horry County Fire Rescue firefighters when SCFC crews arrived on scene.
Horry County Fire Rescue received mutual aid from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.
