SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) is meeting with farmers in the Pee Dee on Wednesday to discuss farm legislation and rural development issues.
Spratt, who will be joined by Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN), will travel to Darlington, Lee and Florence counties to address the 2010 Farm Bill.
Both Spratt and Peterson will be making stops at the Dale Player Farm in Bishopville, Ray Galloway Farm in Darlington, and at the Clemson University Pee Dee Research and Education Center in Florence.
Recently, the House Agriculture Committee held 16 Farm Bill hearings and field hearings to prepare to write the legislation.
In general, officials said they heard the 2008 Farm Bill is working well for most farmers. Some who attended the meeting have suggested that lawmakers simplify and expand access to Farm Bill programs.
Spratt represents South Carolina's 5th District, while Peterson serves as the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.
