Horry Co. Council members vote on proposed campground in Socastee

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Horry County Council members vote on the final reading of an ordinance to rezone for a recreational vehicle campground in the Socastee area Tuesday.

Council members voted unanimously to pass the third and final reading of the ordinance.

The property is off River Road behind the Socastee High and Elementary schools, and was once a mobile home lot. It has been vacant for years.

Homeowners in the area had mixed feelings on the proposal. Some were worried about traffic and the possibility of sex offenders entering the campground. Others felt a bit more comfortable with the campground.

Two members of the public spoke out against the ordinance prior to the vote.
