Convenience store robbery sparks HCPD investigation

Longs, SC - LONGS, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Police are searching for a male suspect who allegedly stole a deposit bag from a woman in a convenience store parking lot Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the department, said the incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. at a Tiger Mart, located at 104 E. Hwy. 9 in Longs.

Investigators said the suspect approached the convenience store's manager and asked for directions as she attempted to enter her car with a deposit bag. The victim said the suspect reached in to the car and pushed her over in an attempt to grab the deposit bag.

Kegler said the suspect threatened the manager with a gun as he made demands to hand over the money. The suspect proceeded to flee from the convenience store on foot with the deposit bag.

Police have described the suspect as a black male in his early 20s or late 30s. The suspect is believed to stand 5'6" with a stocky build and long dreadlocks.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call Horry County Police.
