HEMINGWAY — The Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council (EOC) on Tuesday fired its executive director, the same woman who was fired and rehired by the board several months ago.
The EOC board voted 6-1 to terminate Beth Fryar, who was not at the meeting and has been on medical leave from the agency for two weeks.
Board members declined to give a reason for firing Fryar. Board chairman Zach Grate brought a prepared statement to the meeting that simply said the board voted to terminate Fryar. The statement was dated Aug. 31 and contained a blank space for the vote, which Grate penned in after the decision was made.
After the meeting, Grate refused to say why he voted to fire Fryar. He also wouldn't explain how he knew in advance that a majority of the board would vote with him.
