Police: 14 suspects now tied to Socastee shooting

Socastee, SC -

SOCASTEE, SC (WMBF) - The number of suspects arrested and charged in connection to a fatal shooting in Socastee on Aug. 21 has grown to 14, according to Horry County Police.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the department, said officers originally arrested Alex Lorenzo Robinson, 28, of Conway, on murder and first degree burglary charges in connection to the death of Sylvester Smart Jr.

Smart was shot around 2:10 a.m. on Aug. 21 at an address on Strand Drive in Socastee. EMS workers transported the man to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he later died as the result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

An extension of the shooting investigation led detectives to identify two additional suspects who were allegedly at the address on Strand Drive when the shooting occurred. Investigators claim Maura Rhea Bomar, 22, of Myrtle Beach, and Michael David Walling, 32, of Galivants Ferry, began stealing drugs and weapons after the shooting.

Both Bomar and Walling, according to investigators, were charged with accessory after the fact of a felony for their alleged roles in the incident.

Four others were taken into custody following the execution of a search warrant on Aug. 24 on Laurelwoods Drive. Officials said investigators identified the address as a location where a number of the stolen items were taken after the shooting.

The following people were placed into custody after investigators seized 95 grams of cocaine, 135 ecstasy pills and two firearms:

  • Antoine Lamont Lance, 30, of Pawleys Island
  • Michael Rogers, 23, of Pawleys Island
  • Ashley Janay Pearl, 19, of Myrtle Beach
  • Shana Renea Green, 26, of Myrtle Beach

All four suspects, Kegler said, were charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking MDMA or ecstasy.

Combined efforts from the Horry County Police Department, Myrtle Beach Police Department, U.S. Marshal Service and Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office in Atlanta also led to the arrest of six additional suspects this week:

  • George Everette Gray, 28, of Conway
  • Savannah Michelle Griffin, 19, of Myrtle Beach
  • Russell Dale Griffin, 21, of Myrtle Beach
  • Alexandrea Nichole Jackson, 18, of Myrtle Beach
  • Dalton Wade Morrow, 19, of Myrtle Beach
  • Tina L. Harper, 27, of Myrtle Beach
  • Stanton William Squires, 19, of Aynor

Squires and Gray both face one count of murder. Jackson, Morrow, Harper, Savannah Griffin and Russell Griffin each face one count of accessory after the fact of a felony.

Kegler said Robinson, Lance, Pearl, Gray, Savannah Griffin, Russell Griffin, Jackson and Morrow are currently in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Harper is awaiting extradition from Gwinnett County, GA, while Squires is in the custody of Horry County Police.

Officials said Squires was the last suspect wanted in connection with Smart's death.
