Teen charged as 8th suspect in Socastee shooting

Socastee, SC - SOCASTEE, SC (WMBF) - A 17-year-old teen has become the eighth person charged in connection to a fatal shooting in Socastee on Aug. 21.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for Horry County Police, said Alexandria Nichole Jackson, 17, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Monday by Myrtle Beach Police.  Jackson was charged by police with accessory after the fact to a felony or murder.

Police allege Jackson is connected to the death of Sylvester Smart Jr., who was shot on Aug. 21 around 2:10 a.m. at an address on Strand Drive in Socastee.

EMS workers transported Smart to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he later died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

In addition to Jackson, five others have also been arrested and charged in Smart's death with accessory after the fact of a felony or murder:

  • Maura Rhea Bomar
  • Dalton Wade Morrow
  • Michael David Walling
  • Russell Dale Griffin
  • Savannah Michelle Griffin

Police have also arrested Alex Lorenzo Robinson and George Everett Gray throughout the course of the investigation. Both Robinson and Gray have been charged with murder.

Investigators with the Horry County Police Department have not released any details regarding a possible motive behind the shooting.
