GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A Pawleys Island teen has been arrested and charged Monday in connection to a hit and run accident in Georgetown County over the weekend.
Thomas Gallagher, 18, of Pawleys Island, has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a collision with personal injury. Officials said Gallagher turned himself in to the South Carolina Highway Patrol on Monday.
Gallagher has been charged in connection to striking 16-year-old Jasonn Russell with his car around 11 p.m. Saturday along Litchfield Drive in Georgetown County.
The 16-year-old, according to officials, was transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina to receive treatment for critical injuries.
An examination of the accident scene Saturday night led to the discovery of a side mirror from the car believed to be involved in the incident. Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol immediately sent an alert to the public to be on the lookout for a white or light colored 2001-2007 Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable.
Gallagher is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
