Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A Lancaster County man pled guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm on Wednesday.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Devarus Lajohn Gaither, 24, pled guilty to the charge in Columbia.
Evidence presented at a change of plea hearing established that on Nov. 6, 2008, the Lancaster County Police Department conducted a traffic stop in which Gaither was a rear passenger. After ordering all subjects out of the vehicle, police discovered a Smith and Wesson .357 caliber revolver and a Norinco SKS rifle.
Further investigation determined that Gaither placed both guns in the car.
U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Anderson accepted the plea and will impose sentence at another court date.
The maximum penalty Gaither can receive is a fine of $250,000 or imprisonment for life, plus a special assessment of $100.
