HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) –   This school year six Horry County schools have new principals taking over the reins.  The schools include St. James High School, The Academy for Arts, Science, and Technology, Conway Middle School, Forestbrook Middle School, Myrtle Beach Intermediate, and North Myrtle Beach Elementary.

"I'm very excited to be the principal here at Forestbrook Middle," said April Scott who is now three days on the job.  "We have a great staff they've been wonderful, parents have been wonderful, the students have been well behaved so it's been a great couple of days."

Before her recent promotion Scott was the assistant principal at St. James Middle School and a teacher at Carolina Forest Middle School.   Scott says her prior experience has given her a lot of insight into the teaching and staff positions she now has to oversee.

"Being a teacher in Horry County schools it gives me a better feel for the things the people I'm working with are doing on an everyday basis," said Scott.  "I think it's important anytime you go to a new place you really get to know the people or stake holders involved, so this year I really want to spend some time getting to know everyone."

Vicki Underwood the new principal at North Myrtle Beach Elementary is also adjusting to her new responsibilities.  Underwood has over 30 years experience in education, but this is her first year with the official title of principal.

"We have a lot of things on our shoulders (as principals) but with a good staff, great teachers, and the direction from the district office everything just seems to work out the way it needs to be," said Underwood.
