Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A teacher from Florence School District One is among 10 across the state selected to participate in the STAR Program, according to officials.

Jeannie Franco, an English teacher at South Florence High School, was selected to participate in the program that recognizes and rewards outstanding veteran South Carolina teachers. Franco began her teaching career in Florence One in 1997, and has served in the classroom for 18 years.

"What I do every day changes the world in unforeseen ways. All good teachers want to make a difference and influence the world for the better," Franco said. "We want to create lifelong learners who shape society for the betterment of all."

As a part of the selection, Franco will attend a week-long session of professional development. The program, according to officials, is sponsored by the Foundation for Professional Development and the Palmetto State Teacher Association.
