Barefoot Landing to host breast cancer event

North Myrtle Beach, SC -

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and The American Cancer Society and Barefoot Landing have teamed up to promote awareness.

Along with the Artist's Roundtable and the Alabama Theatre, The American Cancer Society and Barefoot Landing are inviting the public to their "Flock This Way" event beginning Oct. 1. Barefoot Landing merchants will be showcasing their pink items and some will offer specials.

On Oct. 1 – 15, "Pink Your Flamingo" yard art made by local artists will be on display throughout the center and patrons are invited to vote for their favorite. Maps of each flamingo location and vote casting will be available at the Welcome Center.

The yard art will undergo an adult vote as well as a kid's vote. The top five flamingos from the votes will then move to a final celebrity judging at the Alabama Theatre. All flamingos will then be available for auction.

On Oct. 16, Barefoot Landing is hosting its first annual "Flock Walk" to demonstrate a commitment to breast cancer awareness and finding a cure. Early registration for the event begins on Sept.  1 at a rate of $20/adults and $10/children 12 and under. Registration the day of the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. at a rate of $25/adults and $15/children 12 and under, with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. from the Alabama Theatre.

Each registration includes a "Flock Walk 2010" t-shirt available the day of the walk and registration will take place at the Barefoot Landing office.

The Alabama Theatre will then host a "Flock Party" immediately following the walk.

All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of North Myrtle Beach/Little River and breast cancer research.

For more information, contact Melany Mader of the American Cancer Society at 843-213-0333 or Kim Kelly, Barefoot Landing marketing director at 843-272-8349.
