Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Police in Florence have arrested one of two suspects believed to be at the center of a convenience store armed robbery early Sunday morning.
Officers were dispatched to a Kangaroo convenience store, located at 717 Second Loop Rd., at 2 a.m. Sunday after a clerk reported he was robbed at gunpoint by two black males.
According to police, one of the suspects pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the clerk while being carded for a pack of cigarettes. The clerk told police the two suspects then walked around the counter and demanded money.
The two suspects later fled from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
An officer patrolling a nearby area located two males fitting the description of the armed robbery suspects at a nearby Kangaroo convenience store, located at 728 Cashua Drive. As the officer checked the store for suspicious vehicles, the two suspects were spotted walking out of a set of bushes on an adjoining property.
Maj. Carlos Raines, spokesman for the department, said the two men were asked to sit down on a nearby curb for questioning when one of the suspects fled the area.
Further questioning led officers to arrest one of the suspects, identified as Damon Allen, 20, of Florence, on armed robbery and kidnapping charges.
Raines said police have yet to identify and arrest the second suspect connected to Sunday's armed robbery.
Investigators are working to learn if the two could be connected to a rash of similar crimes recently reported in the area.
