MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A new development might soon be coming to the Myrtle Beach area with restaurants, stores and places for people to live.
It's called Summit Shores, and Alice Ziriada with Apex Homes says the development would be similar to the Market Common District. It would be located across from the Myrtle Beach International Airport along US-17 Bypass and an estimated 33 acres.
Ziriada says they have plans to put shops and stores, and have already confirmed spaces for a Cuban restaurant, as well as a Max and Erma's.
Some people like Steve Bowden of Myrtle Beach, however, say that there's a lot of development in the area already. He's not sure how successful it will be.
"It's not working at the moment, so another mall, another shopping area is not what Myrtle Beach needs," Bowden said.
"I don't know how attractive they're going to make this place, but if it's just going to be another place to walk around shops, I don't think it's going to go all that well," agreed Robert Paterson, of Myrtle Beach.
There's also another hurdle as far as zoning is concerned. Lisa Bourcier, spokeswoman for Horry County, says right now the land where Summit Shores is planned is not zoned correctly for the particular type of development.
Bourcier says the company would have to request for rezoning from the Horry County Planning Commission before anything could be built there.
