Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Construction on a $1.2 million baseball and softball facility at Coastal Carolina University remains on schedule, according to school officials.
Mike Cawood, spokesman for Coastal Carolina, said construction on the facility's foundation was completed in July in hopes of having the center up-and-running this fall. Construction plans for the facility detail space for a full, artificial turf infield and up to 12 hitting cages.
Located beyond the centerfield wall of Watson Stadium, the facility is expected to be utilized by Coastal's softball and baseball teams during periods of inclement weather. Officials say it comes as one of several upgrades planned for the two teams in the upcoming years.
"This facility will have a significant impact on the growth of our program," head softball coach Kelly Green said. "To be able to train in a state-of-the-art facility will benefit the entire student-athlete experience."
Cawood said upon completion, Coastal Carolina's new practice facility will put it among the best in the nation.
Ground was broken on the state-of-the-art hitting and practicing facility earlier this spring.
