Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It's back to school time once again, and while many students in the Pee Dee are already in the classroom, Horry County students head back next week.
However, the teachers are already in the classrooms preparing for the big arrival of students.
Pam Datlof at Ocean Bay Elementary School says the teachers spend the summer planning the entire year.
"We meet together as a team early on and we plan our whole year according to the state standards for South Carolina, so what every 3rd grader needs to know in order to be successful and to go to 4th grade," Datlof explained.
Over a thousand students will come through the doors of Ocean Bay Elementary School Monday morning, and kindergarten teacher Amanda Williams says she's also prepping her classroom to make sure students feel comfortable on their first day back.
"We like our classroom to be warm and inviting, and just feel like somewhere the children really want to be," said Williams.
Williams says she's been working for weeks to make sure her classroom is perfect.
"Just having things comfortable, and having a homey feel so they realize this is their home away from home," she explained.
Datlof says, she always looks forward to the first day back.
"Giving each of them a hug and the reassurance that we're going to have a fabulous year together, but also discovering their talents because each kid is talented in their own way, and helping them to discover what to do with those talents in their life," said Datlof.
Datlof and Williams agree that it's the thrill of the start of school, that makes all the preparation worthwhile.
