ORANGEBURG, SC (AP) - A steady stream of mourners is paying their final respects at a South Carolina funeral home to two toddlers whose mother has been accused by authorities of suffocating them, strapping them into their car seats and allowing the car to roll into a river.
The two small boys lay in repose in open white coffins in Orangeburg on Thursday as mourners filed past.
1 of the mourners who knew the victim's family says the mother was facing terrible problems. Another said she would have taken the children had she known of the situation.
Twenty-9-year-old Shaquan Duley told authorities she smothered the boys after a fight with her own mother, who she said constantly badgered her about her failures as a parent and inability to financially provide for her family.
