Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A 43-year-old man has turned himself in to Conway Police following an armed robbery at a BP gas station on Wednesday night.

Catina Hipp, spokeswoman for the Conway Police Department, said officers were dispatched to 2901 Church St. at 9 p.m. in reference to a reported robbery.

A clerk involved in the incident told police a white male approached the counter with a purchase and attempted to steal a money drawer from the clerk's register. An attempt by the clerk to secure the register resulted in the machine falling to the floor.

Conway Police said the suspect took a portion of money that fell out of the register and fled the area in a white Ford Ranger.

Further review of surveillance video led the store's owner to positively identify the suspect as a previous employee, identified as Gary Marrs, 43, of Galivants Ferry.

Marrs, according to officials, turned himself in to Conway Police at 2 a.m. and has since been charged with strong armed robbery.

The 43-year-old appeared Thursday morning before a judge, who set a $10,000 surety bond.
