Horry County, SC - HORRRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Those who have withdrawn from school will have the opportunity to return to the classroom to earn a GED certificate or complete a high school diploma this fall.

Registration is scheduled to begin for the Horry County Schools Adult Education Program on Aug. 23 at 8:30 a.m. at the Conway Education Center and Myrtle Beach Family Learning Center. Additional evening registration will begin Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. at both locations.

Classes, according to organizers, are open to those over the age of 17 who have officially withdrawn from school. Flexible time slots to accommodate individual schedules will be available for classes held Monday through Friday.

A $20 fee will be charged for registration and intake testing for students enrolling in the program. Each high school course and the GED preparation course will cost $25. Registration and class cost for ESL classes has been set at $50.

Students who wish to earn a high school diploma, according to officials, must successfully complete the requirements for 24 Carnegie units and pass the South Carolina Exit Exam. Units previously earned in high school will count towards the diploma and will be verified on individual high school transcripts.
