Horry County, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Students in the Pee Dee may already be hitting the books again, but Horry County kids have until Monday to buckle down. Or do they?
Ocean Bay Elementary Principal Nancy Ward says parents should start getting their kids back into a routine now.
"I know I have a son that has enjoyed the summer and the routine's kind of slipped a little," she said.
Her advice for parents includes "making sure they're getting to bed on time and getting up a little earlier each day." The idea is that the first day of school won't be as much of a shock to your child's system.
"That physical demand in the first week is tough, particularly on kindergartners," she said.
Ward adds that while educators will be patient with students as they get acclimated to the school schedule, teachers can't slow down lesson plans because they have so much to get through during the 180-day school year.
