ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Two children's bodies have been recovered from a submerged vehicle in the Edisto River.
Emergency crews were called to the Shillings Bridge boat ramp for a report of a vehicle in the water.
Orangeburg Sheriff Larry Williams told thetandD.com, his department is investigating a report of two minor children being left in a car.
A witness who lives close to the boat ramp told WIS the car floated from the boat landing to her house and she watched rescue workers pull two little boys' bodies from the car.
The witness says she overheard investigators saying the ignition was left on when they opened the car door in the water.
Orangeburg sheriff's deputies had Shillings Bridge Rd. closed down for most of the morning while trying to retrieve the Green Dodge Intrepid from the river.
The names and ages of the children have not been released.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams is going to talk to the media about the incident at 1 p.m. today.
