School supply drive preps students for upcoming year

Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - As students get ready to zip up their book bags and head back to the classroom, some parents may be left wondering how they'll juggle the bill for new school supplies.

A partnership between HTC and the Kiwanis Club of Conway is helping to ease the financial burden of the new school year, as organizers gear up for the 11th annual Back to School Free School Supplies Program.

The free school supplies will be distributed to students on Wednesday at HTC branch offices at 8 a.m., in addition to an HTC store located inside of the Coastal Grand Mall at 10 a.m.

"We hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to receive the school supplies they need to prepare for the start of the school year," Betty Moore, president of the Kiwanis Club of Conway, said.

An organizer close to the campaign said officials expect to hand out more than 2,000 bags of supplies for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Each school supply bag handed out will be packed with pencils, rulers, erasers, pencil bags and notebooks. All bags will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
