18-year-old charged in burglary, CDV incident

Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A man wanted by multiple law enforcement agencies along the Grand Strand has been apprehended by Conway Police on Thursday.

Willie Jamal Sumpter, 18, of Conway, was located by police while conducting a routine patrol of apartments on Creel Street in Conway just before midnight.  Sumpter, according to authorities, was located hiding under a pile of clothes in an upstairs bedroom closet.

Sumpter has been charged by Conway Police with criminal domestic violence in connection to an incident on June 15. A victim told police Sumpter struck her in the face with a belt buckle after an argument.

The 18-year-old has also been charged with second degree burglary in connection to a residential burglary on Lincoln Park Drive in Conway. A homeowner told police the back door to the residence had been kicked in on July 10.

Sumpter, according to officials, was also wanted by the Horry County Police Department and South Carolina Probation and Parole.

A judge granted Sumpter a $2,500 personal recognizance bond for the criminal domestic violence charge. He was denied bond on the second degree burglary charge.
