PELZER, S.C. (AP) - A mother and her 2-year-old toddler have died in a fiery crash that involved a South Carolina National Guard truck.
Multiple media outlets report Friday that 21-year-old Ashley Lehman of Easley and her daughter Aida Lehman died Thursday afternoon in a crash near Interstate 85 about 20 miles south of Greenville.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says Lehman braked to avoid someone pulling out in front of her, and the sport utility vehicle behind her pushed her car into the path of a military convoy.
Witnesses say a military truck essentially ran over Lehman's car. Soldiers then pulled 19-year-old passenger Crystal Keaton out of the vehicle moments before it caught fire. She was taken to a hospital with arm and leg fractures.
The SUV driver was also taken to a hospital.
