SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Surfside Beach Police Department is investigating a series of home burglaries that have occurred along Ocean Boulevard in the middle of the night.

According to police reports, eight homes between 1300 S. Ocean Blvd. and 900 N. Ocean Blvd. have been burglarized  within the past four weeks.

"We're blessed with a very low incidence of serious crime here," Capt. Arron Miller with the Surfside Beach Police Department explained. "That's why we're taking these incidents so seriously."

According police reports, each of the incidents have happened between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.  Police say the suspects seem to be targeting items they can easily carry away, such as purses, cell phones, and laptops.

Tracey Franzosa, who is vacationing is Surfside with her family, says her condo was broken into this past Saturday.

"I was shocked. I was absolutely stunned because you come on vacation and you're here to have a good time. You would never expect to be robbed," Franzosa said.  "It takes a lesson like this to learn to make sure you are secure and your home is locked down no matter what time you go out."

The Surfside Beach Police Department is asking anyone with information on these burglaries to give them a call at (843) 913-6349.
