Darlington, SC - DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - A 20-year-old has pleaded guilty in court Thursday on charges stemming from the 2008 murder of a Darlington County man.
Christopher Kinney, 20, of Darlington, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The charges were pressed by the Darlington Police Department in connection to the March 2008 death of John Robert Spell.
"We are pleased that this matter has come to a successful close this defendant and that the family can begin to heal," Capt. Danny Watson of the Darlington Police Department said.
A judge sentenced Kinney to 25 years for the voluntary manslaughter charge, in addition to five years for the weapons charge.
Kinney will be eligible for release after 85 percent of the concurrent sentence is charged.
