Skull buried at high school was 'educational'

Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A human skull once used for educational purposes has been uncovered by police in an area near Conway High School.

Catina Hipp, spokeswoman for the Conway Police Department, said officers were dispatched to Conway High School on Wednesday around 1 p.m. after someone reported finding human remains.

Employees from Horry Electric told officers while locating underground wires, an apparent human skull was spotted. Police retrieved the skull and transported it to a local pathologist for examination.

Hipp said the pathologist confirmed the skull was that of a human, but believes it was once used for educational purposes. The pathologist, according to officials, found a precision cut at the top of the skull and screws holding the jaw bone to the skull.

Police continue to investigate why the skull was buried behind Conway High School.
