GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) - As workers continue to make progress on the construction of a new Walmart in Garden City, company officials have announced they're ready to hire a team of associates to help make the store a success.

Walmart officials announced Monday the company has started to accept applications for 400 full-time and part-time positions at its temporary hiring center, located at 2999 Fantasy Harbour Blvd., in Myrtle Beach.

Hiring specialists will be on hand to accommodate potential employees Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We will be [at the temporary offices] until the last of August. Then, we will transition to the Garden City location where we will be putting the final preparation on the store for the grand opening," Scott Brisson, store manager, said. "At the same time, [we'll be] finalizing any hiring that we have not accomplished."

The hiring center, according to officials, will accept applications for associates that are needed to work in a variety of areas - from cashiers and greeters to supervisory positions.

Officials said the majority of associates will begin work in September to help prepare for the store's fall grand opening. There is a chance that those offered a job on the spot could begin work within a week.

Employees would train at a nearby Walmart store until the Garden City store is ready to be occupied.

"We are excited to add this Walmart to Garden City and bring good jobs with career opportunities to the area," Brisson said.

People who showed up at the hiring center Monday were just as excited to have a chance at employment.

Felicia Terrell says she's lucky to have walked away with a new job.

"Well the good news is I just got an opportunity to get a job here working at Walmart in the customer service, so I'm pretty excited. I've been here since 8:30 and it was a long process but it was well worth it," Terrell said.

Officials with Walmart said the new 200,000 square foot store will be located near the Garden City Connector and Kings Highway.
