Father: Shark bite victim 'doing great'

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A 10-year-old boy who experts believe was bit by a small shark late Monday morning is on the road to recovery, according to family members.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a location along 74th Avenue North just before 10:45 a.m. Monday after learning the 10-year-old had received bite makes while swimming in the ocean.

Officials on scene described the boy as having a number of "puncture wounds," but were unable to immediately identify what caused the injury. Further examination of the bite marks led an expert to believe the injury was caused by a small shark.

The Gettysburg Times reported the 10-year-old from Gettysburg, PA, needed 19 stitches in wake of the incident. In an email exchange between the paper and the boy's father, the 10-year-old was described as "doing great."
